Who is this course for?
This NRA course is designed to prepare individuals who possess basic firearms knowledge to run a live fire range. Indoor and outdoor ranges are covered.
What can you expect?
Every student will learn how to properly take control of firearms on the firing line, how to identify stoppages and malfunctions, and how to properly clear them. Upon completion of this course students will become NRA certified Range Safety Officers. Certified Range Safety Officers are required for all Boy Scouts of America shooting events, NRA sanctioned shooting competitions and events, as well as many other shooting events and practically every commercial shooting range and gun club. All workbooks, tests, certificates, firearms, dummy ammunition, range time, eye and ear protection are provided in this course.

Notes: There is no shooting, dry firing, or ownership program associated with this course. Safety only. Pre-registration is required so that I will have sufficient materials on hand for all participants. I need two weeks lead time to insure delivery from the NRA resource center. NRA Range Safety Officers must be 21 years of age or older. Certs are issued by the NRA training department, therefore there is also additional certification and processing fees payable to the NRA ($30.00 for NRA members & $50.00 for non-members) for initial certification as a NRA RSO.
This course will certify you as an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer.
Whether you work at a range or just want to enhance your firearm safety skills, this course will benefit you. Specifically the course provides you with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting operation(s) and activities. You will learn the roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures, range rules and inspection, the all-important range briefing, emergency procedures and working through firearm malfunctions/stoppages. Course Tuition is $145. Pre-Registration is required.
1) What should I bring?
You should bring a lunch and something to drink throughout the day.
2) How much experience should I have before I take this course?
The RSO is expected to be able to address jams and malfunctions of pistols, rifles and shotguns. You should be comfortable in handling all three types of firearms.
3) What does this certification allow me to do?
The RSO certification signifies that you have successfully performed the required safe gun handling (clearing of malfunctions, loading, unloading, general handling) exercises and demonstrated an understanding of Range Standard Operating procedures, Briefings, Operations and Range Safety. Employees of public and private ranges benefit from this course by being better able to handle day to day range operations. Range operators may receive discounted insurance rates as a result of all range employees having this certification.
