NRA Range Safety Officers must be 21 years of age or older. Certs are issued by the NRA training department, therefore there is also additional certification and processing fees payable to the NRA ($30.00 for NRA members & $50.00 for non-members) for initial certification as a NRA RSO.

This course will certify you as an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer.

Whether you work at a range or just want to enhance your firearm safety skills, this course will benefit you.  Specifically the course provides you with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting operation(s) and activities. You will learn the roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures, range rules and inspection, the all-important range briefing, emergency procedures and working through firearm malfunctions/stoppages. Course Tuition is $145.  Pre-Registration is required.

1) What should I bring?

You should bring a lunch and something to drink throughout the day.

2) How much experience should I have before I take this course?

The RSO is expected to be able to address jams and malfunctions of pistols, rifles and shotguns.  You should be comfortable in handling all three types of firearms.

3) What does this certification allow me to do?

The RSO certification signifies that you have successfully performed the required safe gun handling (clearing of malfunctions, loading, unloading, general handling) exercises and demonstrated an understanding of Range Standard Operating procedures, Briefings, Operations and Range Safety.  Employees of public and private ranges benefit from this course by being better able to handle day to day range operations.  Range operators may receive discounted insurance rates as a result of all range employees having this certification.
